I think I am caught up. Not as creative and "fun" as I'd like it to be but...caught up! I guess it just shows how busy things can be with a 5, 3 and 1 year old. Plus...at the end of the day when they go to bed the ONLY thing this Momma usually wants to do is SIT DOWN on the couch and do NOTHING!!!! Now that I am caught up, I won't get behind again!!!! :D
As usual the holidays were crazy and hectic but...that's what I love about them. Halloween was just me and Reese. I LOVE Halloween so at first this bothered me but...Hunter preferred to hand out candy w/ dad and I wasn't about to make a then 18 month old dress up and sit in a stroller the whole time. So, the boys stayed home. Reese and I had a great time. :D
We celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas w/ Jamie's family over Thanksgiving b/c Brad and Kathleen were going to Arizona this year. Thanksgiving as usual at my mom and dad's. Fall festival at my mom and dad's. (They literally turn their backyard into a fall carnival w/ games and prizes!!!!!)
This Christmas we realized as we usually do how blessed we are. Family nearby, everyone is healthy, everyone has work, warm shelter, etc. It's so easy to lose focus of these blessings in the hustle and bustle of shopping, putting up decorations, etc. We've had the opportunity to help a family out around Christmas time for a few years now and Reese is finally starting to understand why we do that. I am glad she is seeing the "big picture."
I LOVE FALL!! Fall--pumpkins, pumpkin patch, State Fair, Peanut Festival, Gramma's Fall Festival, HALLOWEEN, and Thanksgiving! Of course...it's also very busy doing all of that. So busy that...I missed the fair this year. For those who know me, you know that that is HUGE! I hate to miss the fair. Part of it was timing but...we also had a very wet fall and the days we were available to go, the weather was yucky! We did make a trip to Kansas to see Uncle Booshie and Aunt Kafleen and Brayden. They got a new house and we went to hang out with them for a weekend! It was a great trip. We also got to visit w/ Grandma Lefa and Grandpa Howard, Uncle Dick and Aunt Jan, and Uncle Dan and Aunt Mary! It was fun to see everyone.
Well, the end of summer/beginning of fall was bittersweet for us. We've (I've) known the day was coming for Reese to start Kindergarten. And even though it was 5 years (a couple of those long years), I wasn't as ready as I thought I would be. Some of you know that Reese is an extremely stubborn/strong-willed person much like someone else you all know and that made for a rough year and a half here at home! :D Seems like she and I had argued more than anything. So...when it was time to start K it was harder for me b/c I kind of wanted that year back to make up for all the bad days we had had. I wasn't worried at all about how she would handle the transition. I had no doubt that she would waltz right into that room and start teaching herself. We (Jamie and I) took her to a place called Amazing Jakes the Sunday before school started to have a day to herself. We made a huge deal the next morning about starting school. Special breakfast, notes waiting for her when she woke up, etc. She was so excited and I was not surprised. Then we got to school. She and I both were doing great! Like we had done it before. Then...some lady walked by my sobbing (no kidding). Not only did that send me into tears (not sobbing though) but...I think it scared Reese. Her grip in my hand got much tighter and she stared walking a little more slowly. Thankfully, we got to her room and her good friend from Pre-K was in her class. (PRAISE THE LORD!!) She was a little unsure when we headed towards the door and I could tell she was fighting back the tears. This is one of those things that I love about her. She IS a strong, stubborn, prideful, nothing can hurt me little girl but...she is also mush inside! It was hard to walk out the door. I wanted to scoop her up and say, "we'll go next year!!!" But, I didn't! Praise the Lord that day went by pretty quickly and when I picked her up she couldn't have been smiling any bigger. My little girl...is growing up!
We went to Eureka Springs, Arkansas for our summer vacation. The kids really enjoyed it. We met Uncle Booshie, Aunt Kafleen & Brayden up there. (Jamie's brother & family.) We had a beautiful 2 story house way up on a "mountain" and it looked down on what I believe is called the "Green River." I could be wrong about this. (First picture is actually our house taken from the valley below.) We went over the 4th of July. 2nd best way to watch fireworks...on the 2nd floor porch, w/ a sweatshirt on and watching everyone else's show down in the valley. PERFECT!!!! And we saw some huge fireworks. Very relaxing time!
